@ansuz Mojeek has a strange choice of languages too. Did not support Russian or anything using a non-roman script last I checked.

@millihertz @onepict I agree, it is preying on people's ignorance. It should be prosecuted, but isn't.

@millihertz @onepict Once I might have agreed with you. FPTP is bad, yes, but the tactic of "X can't win here" is still used to suppress voting and maintain the status quo in places like Australia which has preferential voting.

We can't change the electoral system before the next election, but we can change our voting habits.

@onepict Tactical voting is a blight on democracy.

If we accept a few polls as inevitable and let them scare us into voting against our conscience democracy functions... well, a bit like it has been. Which is to say, it doesn't.

"Party X can't win here" is *always* a lie intended to preserve the status quo. Change comes only by ignoring the polls and campaigning and voting for the world we expect to see.

The Matrix conf is on now. Having to filter this out of my timeline as it makes me rather angry to hear about it. ๐Ÿ˜

It had a mandatory mask policy last year.

It did this year too when it was first announced.

Then the mask policy was quietly (and completely) removed with no public announcement or explanation.

No protest either. Just complicit silence. ๐Ÿซ

This, despite the fact the organiser is the founder of the #PublicHealthPledge.

Photos suggest almost no one is masking. Quelle surprise.

Alonso popped by for a late afternoon/evening visit.

I'm making goat curry (karahi gosht). Alonso was very interested and wanted to help.

When his owner came to collect him she said she thinks he likes coming here a little too much... ๐Ÿ˜‰

A woman appears, pushes a button somewhere that starts opening the gate, and laughs. Phew! She has a sense of humour. I explain that Alonso has found a hole in their fence and she nods.

We bid her a good day and leave quickly, waving to the Dutch couple and heading home. ๐Ÿ‘‹

Thanks to Alonso we are gradually getting to know *everyone* in the area. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm trespassing in someone's private yard, and calling over the fence to Alonso who is trespassing in someone else's yard.

I give up, and walk back around to the metal gate. Alonso runs up excitedly waiting for me to open the gate.

The Dutch couple next door see me. We are discovered! They laugh out loud, obviously understanding our predicament. Muffy barks. Alonso looks at me.

I push the buzzer for the locked gate and wait.

I went back to the first house. We don't know the owner, but, thanks to Alonso, I know she is the niece of the Dutch couple who own Muffy on the other side of the gated house.

I've been meaning to tell you the story of Muffy, but you'll have to wait. First, we need to rescue Alonso!

I inspected the yard and found a couple of places where an Alonso might have squeezed through. I call him over. He comes, but shows no interest in coming back through the fence.

We waited in the next patch of shade for Alonso, but he was taking a long time. Normally we'd just walk on and let him catch up, but I thought I heard a noise, and decided to go investigate.

Alonso was in the yard of the second house. The one with the "dog-proof" fence and electric gate.

He ran up to the gate and looked at me happily. ๐Ÿถ

I tried in vain to suggest he go out the way he came in, but you'll be surprised to learn this didn't help...

The next house has a dog-proof fence around it, because the previous owners had some (lovely) dogs we used to talk to. It has an electric gate that is usually shut (thankfully), otherwise we have to persuade Alonso not to go inside. I had to chase him out of there a couple of weeks ago. He thought it a wonderful game.

Today, the gate was shut, so we continued on...

There are a few houses we pass on the way back from the lac. Alonso goes through a little routine with each, and this is generally fine.

The first is a cabin set back from the road in some trees. This has no fence. Alonso sometimes rests in the shade here waiting for us to catch up, or goes for a sniff and then catches up with us.

    So we continued on...

    Alonso had many adventures today.

We walked him to the lac. There were some people resting with their ponies in the shade. Alonso isn't interested in horses, and stays away from cattle (having apparently been kicked by a cow once according to his owners). He ignored the ponies, sniffed the people and continued with us.

    WUFF! ๐Ÿถ

Alonso is very keen to get started work today.

He barked four times to be let in and then raced past me up the stairs to the office.

    Such enthusiasm on a Wednesday.

We bumped into Alonso's owner on the way on our walk yesterday. Alonso was NOT ready to go home yet and refused to get in the car. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Alonso has his own opinions about how his time is scheduled.

Alonso had another sleepover so he's still here. I think his owners have been very busy.

Last night I cooked egg-fried rice and sichuan pork and let Alonso try a little bit. He likes those very much. I think he would have wolfed down an entire bowl of both if we'd let him, but he'd already eaten. He probably shouldn't be eating spicy food, but he likes to try a little bit of whatever we eat. ๐Ÿš
