@ytscorp Ya, Bodie is an amazing place. High up in the arid and desolate Bodie Hills at 2,554m (8,379ft) the town is preserved in a "state of arrested decay." The town was founded in 1879 and the last people left by 1942, but it had already been in serious decline for decades. What's cool, is as the decline happened, people just up and left, leaving behind tons of relics for us to enjoy today!

@benroyce @alienghic @lauren I used that comic at the beginning of my talks on energy democracy 15yrs ago. The ubiquitous nature of renewable energies argues for a decentralized energy approach, to paraphrase John Farrell of the Institute for Local Self-Reliance. For the first time in human history individuals & communities are able to generate power & store energy. Kings, lords, & now capitalists, really really don't like that. But the political will to democratize energy does not exist. 😞

I almost never eat out anymore. In the before times, I used to like eating breakfast at locally owned roadside and small town cafes. Sadly, they have been slowly disappearing & post-pandemic it is really hard to find one nowadays. And when you do, it seems like the prices are through the roof. But then I'm old & I remember when eating out seemed much more affordable. Do you eat out as much as you did in the before times?
