So many modern game GUIs are bland. Flat or transparent, basic shapes with text, often with monochrome icons that an intern could knock out cheaply, if not lifted straight from a generic icon library.

I've recently gone through some older titles, and they actually look like games. A sad reminder of what was lost in the name of maximum profit.
