I'm testing the new BSSG test build. I've been working on it for a while to refactor the build process and move it entirely to RAM (optionally, for now).
On my OpenBSD Amsterdam VPS (single core, spinning drives), build times are cut down to less than a third of the last release, and on other devices it takes about half the time, with zero I/O.

The current caching system isn't exactly rock-solid, and personally, I prefer a faster full build over maintaining all that complexity.

I'll probably upload everything as soon as I've ironed out a couple of bugs, in the coming days.

@mkj it actually measures the latency and bandwidth occupation and switches providers automatically. But situations like this one are hard to spot, as the latency is good (enough) and the occupation is low. It's just showing low bandwidth towards specific hosts/networks. But it's fine: it was still working and I wouldn't have noticed it most of the time.

My FTTC provider (Fastweb) is having some routing problems, so reaching the BSD Cafe is...slow.

One small change in my router settings and switching to the other provider.

@82mhz Exactly. I've had problems in the past (garage flooded, etc) and they were good. I think it depends on the insurance company. But they're generally quite bad.

@82mhz The time I broke my back (https://my-notes.dragas.net/2026/02/02/the-weight-of-a-millimeter/), they eventually came up with the claim that the X-rays did not state that the fracture was a consequence of the accident, therefore, in their view, there was no way to prove causality. They offered a ridiculous compensation, in addition to repairing the vehicle, which I obviously refused. In the end I spoke with a lawyer, who explained that a mistake had been made at the hospital. They should have written something like "following a recent trauma", which they had not done. Because of that, the chances of obtaining an appropriate amount without a long legal battle would have been slim.
Eventually we agreed on a slightly less slim amount, with which I bought a computer and took a short trip abroad.

I do not know whether the laws have changed today, but I was very, very disappointed.

@Tionisla @dexter life is hard. We can try to make it a little better concentrating on the "small" good things we can daily enjoy.

@82mhz yes, it was awful. And it's not over. The insurance company, as expected, is trying to avoid to cover the expenses. But this is another story.

@82mhz totally. The important part is that "water" won't come up again from the office toilet. I'd gladly avoid that 😆
