@eff oof. Time to retire my EFF T-shirts, I guess. It'd be embarrassing to be associated with whatever this is.

I understand every third word, if I'm lucky. Tonight he had a sore throat and I understood even less. He used to ask me for beer or wine, but now knows I don't drink, so he asks for dog food for his dogs. I usually throw some people food in the bag, too, though he doesn't ask.

It was a DC240 in the late 90s. For all its limitations, it took pretty great photos. The new one also has pretty decent video specs. https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1920220-REG/kodak_rk0601_charmera_keychain_digital_camera.html?ap=y&smp=Y

It's kinda nice to hear the little heads chittering away in there, finding my data. I don't miss the seek times, though. Everything feels sluggish.

RGB LEDs are a sickness in PC components.@tedchoward And, it's hard to believe Micro Center is the one that survived! Incredible stuff. I remember when the situation for Micro Center was dire. The stores were sad and half empty, halfway to backrooms vibes. Fry's always seemed bustling and doing fine until like a week before they were all closed.
But, Micro Center was quite busy today, and I'm happy with the price I got. I think I'll probably start shopping there when I need computer stuff.

RGB LEDs are a sickness in PC components.@mcrocker I have grown to loathe this stuff. It's always moving which is just so distracting. It gives me anxiety. I'm going to have to figure out how to turn off the RAM lights...the CPU cooler just needed to have the lights unplugged. But the RAM is lit without any wires, powered by the motherboard I guess. It looks neat for like 30 seconds and then it needs to go tf away.
-
RGB LEDs are a sickness in PC components. Also, it really is true you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. Had to go to Micro Center for different RAM, and while I'm grateful for a brick and mortar that carries a wide variety of PC components and at not crazy prices, it's certainly no Fry's.

One of the worst features of Apple OS 26 is that I think it has made copy/pasting contact information *even* harder@glyph I thought you were describing Google Voice, which has similarly idiotic behavior.

My new CPU included a "free" liquid cooling system, but it is way too big for my tiny mini-ITX case.@lordjeff so, even if I don't enjoy it as much as I did as a younger nerd, I pretty much have to do it. I need the expensive extremely quiet fans and a case designed for quiet. I hate loud computers and all PC vendors make loud computers. I need to be able to install a ridiculous amount of RAM.
-
My new CPU included a "free" liquid cooling system, but it is way too big for my tiny mini-ITX case.@lordjeff when I was traveling full-time, I went about ten years with only a laptop, so I gave it up for quite a while. But, I got tired of the laptops breaking (mostly keyboard) and being very difficult and expensive to work on. Finally I decided I wasn't going to keep doing that and turned the dinette in my motorhome into a permanent desk and built a desktop machine. That's the one I'm replacing. I can't buy an off the shelf pre built because they all suck, are loud, and cost too much.

My new CPU included a "free" liquid cooling system, but it is way too big for my tiny mini-ITX case.I'm gonna be mad as hell if the liquid cooler has loud fans and I have to figure something out with that. I always buy the ridiculous expensive Noctua fans so they'll be quiet, and very few manufacturers care about making their fans quiet.
-
My new CPU included a "free" liquid cooling system, but it is way too big for my tiny mini-ITX case. Also, they gave me one fewer fan lead on this new motherboard, it only has two! I figured since it was also a Gigabyte Aorus like the previous, it'd mostly be plug and play dropping it into the old case, but, nope. But, I guess I'll have a different fan situation in the new case, so I'll figure that out when it gets here. Probably need fewer case fans, anyway, since the liquid CPU cooler vents directly out of the case.
I think I like building computers, but this is all annoying.

I don't know why I didn't anticipate this. Now I have to either buy a new case or a new cooler, and it turns out finding a small cooler for this power hungry CPU is challenging, so I'm going with the former...it was fun having a tiny cube computer while it lasted, back to mid-tower land, like we did it in the 90s. I would have bought a bigger motherboard if I'd known...

We in here encrypting.I gotta say, it's a lot easier to encrypt on Linux than it used to be. I was all ready to read man pages, but it's literally just a checkbox and give it a password.

We in here encrypting. We in here encrypting. I've been lazy about encryption in the past, but I had a laptop stolen a while back, and it sucked having to reset all my passwords, so all new computers and USB disks are getting encrypted. I got the parts for my new computer today and I'm encrypting the drive I'm using to backup the current system as we speak. The system itself will also get LUKS.

The kid who announced out loud that the Emperor had no clothes was probably autistic, in case you were wondering why a fascist administration would be targeting autistic Americans.@angiebaby folks on the spectrum also often have a strong and urgent discomfort about injustice and deceit, at least in their areas of interest and awareness. That's incompatible with an ideology based wholly on the whims of the powerful.
