  • This talk of 10x productivity makes me blink a bit.

@graydon Oh absolutely. Also as you note they're probably not writing 10x the code, they're fixing 10x the bugs.

@graydon I think 10x programmers are like AI - they're much much faster than the rest of us at creating bugs.

@hex0x93 I know nothing about Cloudflare's data practices. But I do know a lot of sites have been forced to go with Cloudflare because so many AI bots are incessantly scraping their site that the site goes down and humans can't access it - essentially AI is doing a DDOS, and when that's sustained for weeks/months/more then the Cloudflare-type system seems to be the only way to have the site actually available to humans.

I hate it but those f---ing AI bots, seriously, they are ruining the net.

  • How to block Bluesky from Mastodon:
    zeborah@mastodon.nzundefined zeborah@mastodon.nz

@David "all it does on the side of something doing it is preventing them from seeing posts from people on Bluesky who bridged here"

Yes. That's the point. Obviously there are technical differences between other instances and bridged platforms but for practical purposes that's what people mean when they say "block". That's what people are wanting to do, and so @FediTips is explaining how to do it.

  • Consider the best job that you've had recently.
    zeborah@mastodon.nzundefined zeborah@mastodon.nz

@futurebird Applied 'cold' for a different job at the company (which would have been a stretch for me), got an interview but not the job, and a few months later was invited to apply for the job[*] I ended up getting.

...This was like 15 years ago, since then the job has accrued responsibilities and eventually pay to match.

[*] A vacancy arising from someone getting a different job I'd also interviewed for; that company never actually got back to me to say I hadn't got it, so the phone call from my to-be-boss was how I found out lol. It would have been a bad fit for me so this was very positive all round.

@PattyHankins Lovely! The skates remind me of the strap-on rollerskates I had when I was a kid.

I've definitely seen people doing casual ice skating in long skirts and I wouldn't mind trying it myself. You'd just have to avoid sit-positions and catch-foot tricks and such, but as long as you keep your blades under your hems and not the other way around you'd be fine... (Probably helps when you're used to wearing long skirts anyway and have the instinct for how they move and how to kick them out of your way as needed.)
