I think the battery in my #UPS is dying 🥲
Had a tiny power blip and my PC rebooted.
It’s about 3 years old, we have pretty regular (brief) power outages. Battery in it is relied on probably 2-3 times a week for 1-3 minutes at a time, occasionally a bit longer.
It’s been fully drained a few times over the years.
Does 3 years seem about right in a UPS?
APC Back-UPS Pro 1350S if that’s helpful. Can handle 900W load, but never exceeds 500W.

This is the first one I’ve owned. The battery chemistry is not one I have experience with (Lead Acid) so I don’t really know what to expect out of it.
3 years isn’t too disappointing given how often it engages, but I admit I was hoping it would last longer 😪

@josh 3 years is on the short side for lead acid. Usually 5 years. Same kind of battery used in a car.

@josh Yeah it happens, depending on many environmental and usage factors. You can get a replacement battery for the unit rather than replace the whole thing.

@josh 3-5 years is the typical lifetime for batteries. The more it discharges and recharges the shorter the lifespan. The real test is turn everything on and pull the plug. See how long it lasts. If it's not long enough for your needs, replace the battery

@josh the UPS capacity VS the load you put on it only affects the run time not the overall battery health. Except to the degree that a severely undersized unit is going to completely drain more often which is not good for it

@FeloniousPunk I found a replacement battery. Only has a 2 year warranty which tells me 3 years is probably close to the expected lifespan

@ithoughtisawa2 we had a small blip and my PC rebooted. WiFi router (not plugged into a UPS) didn’t reboot from the blip.
Battery indicator showed 2/5 bars after the blip.
It has drained fully a handful of times over the years. I also tend to unplug it (everything off) when I leave for extended periods (2+ weeks). Unsure if that was wise or not?

@josh I understood from a friend that the batteries last about 2 years on his UPS, unknown brand.
