If I had a penny for every time I heard something like
"We're going to track increases in productivity that we gain by adopting GenAI"
1. So you're assuming it's an increase
2. Against what control group
3. With no acknowledgement of confounding variables or experiment design
4. Around the...famously open problem of measuring software engineering productivity? -

4. Around the...famously open problem of measuring software engineering productivity? In other news, I'd like to share that I measured a 100% gain in productivity after turning the lights on for a team that was previously operating entirely in darkness.
Though I still need to do some research to understand the Hawthorne effect

@saraislet on top of vibe coding, we've got vibe management
@JessTheUnstill that's the secret, Jess, it was always vibe management
executive brains are literally composed of Markov neuron chains

@saraislet Then can we skip the greedy meat sacks and just have Agentic Management? It'd probably not do all that much worse, and cost 100,000,000x less

@saraislet feed it MBA textbooks, Wall Street Journal, and LinkedIn garbage, and get back your quarterly goals.

@JessTheUnstill honestly? if we replaced every manager with a quarter of a program manager, a therapist, a career coach, and a GenAI agent, we'd get....actually that's just a manager

Well, the biggest problem is
The nation doesn't celebrate when you bump off an ai in the street
That seems like a mark in both categories actually

Multiplied by bugs fixed!

4. Around the...famously open problem of measuring software engineering productivity?"Corporate jargon translator fish" says that "We're going to track increases in productivity that we gain by adopting GenAI" means "We're going to 'gin up' some numbers to 'justify' our massive corporate spend in GenAI."

@TeflonTrout @JessTheUnstill @saraislet the biggest problems is that genAI models say they are sorry when you tell them they've made a mistake. Until that but it's fixed, they can't be made managers.
On the upside, they're starting to get AGGRESSIVELY wrong now, so ...
