Today I'm decommissioning my work laptop, and moving to a new machine. The 3-year leasing period is over.
The old one is an M1 Macbook Pro. While on previous occasions I really looked forward to the performance boost of a new laptop, with this one, I would have just kept using it for another 1-2 years.
The replacement is an M4 Macbook Air. According to colleagues, it's marginally nicer. But not "OMG shut up and take my money" nicer.

@stefano Cool! I hope you get the BSD on the new laptop nicely tuned up eventually.
At work, I have to use all the Microsoft 365 stuff, so that gets layered on top of the machine's MacOS. It sure doesn't make things run any faster. And then there's all the usual corporate device management + endpoint security crap.
Still, the M1 is powering through all this cruft quite admirably. Unlike the Windows machines that my colleagues use...
