Hello there, new user here.
I'm a woman just about at that mark that says I'm half a century old (that does sound way too old). I live in a semirural small town in Sweden. I own a small boat that I enjoy spending time on during the warmer part of the year, now it is on dry land and about to put to sleep until May next year when the boating season starts back up again.
I do enjoy various crafts as well as relaxing with a good book, so that's often what I do during the winter season to a larger extent.

@mkj that's the reason why I'm revamping it. I created it in 2009/2010 as I needed to find a way to turn on heaters before getting back home from long trips. So it was ssh only and simple. In 2012 it went into a Raspberry Pi inside the wall, and a nice led indicated the status. When I sold that house, in 2015 and moved, I started to use a Netatmo device - which is still running fine - as that setup would have been too complex here. But it's time to give it a new life.

@tg9541 @stfn I'll probably continue with python with something like flask - but it will be optional as everything can be controlled using the command line or a simple menu

Window shutters (if they exist at all) in the US are often non functional and decorative. But shutters are really useful!
The ones on our Airbnb in Roma were clearly regularly used - moved easily, no more dirty than Iβd expect. People next door clearly opened and closed theirs each night as well.
So I was surprised when I reached out to close the ones in Firenze to block the morning light, only to discover that they were creaky, filthy, and almost no one nearby was using theirs either! π€
