@OKdad I already got my daughter to be completely turned off by Barbie dolls at age 3, totally rejecting them (after I explained to her that they have impossible dimensions that do not exist IRL and if a real woman looked like a Barbie she wouldn't be able to engage in a lot of fun sports, because she'd be too frail). Gotta do the same with Big Tech tools

And it's gonna continue to pressure the U.S. government to get removed from the blocklist it was put on in 2021, in an attempt to get into the U.S. market.

@Lognormal_guy I think as long as the personal and monetary incentives persist, that content will unfortunately continue to thrive. SO! **IMO** on the micro-level: talk to kids about this stuff and be honest about your feelings and concerns. And on the macro-level: challenge the incentives—the algorithms and the platformers. which is what I think @_elena is attempting to do!

@zuru thanks for the advice! I asked my mom if I could put the nice ladybug on the basil plant my mom keeps downstairs but got a firm no.
I was careful with water and sprinkled the makeshift home i made for her with literally 3 drops... but she wasn't all that interested and hasn't visited me in my room all afternoon 🥲

@Lognormal_guy @_elena You’re right—kids are scooped up in this that wouldn’t have otherwise, even if it is a small percentage. I personally think of this as an extension of what we are seeing at the intersection of algorithmic social media and right-wing content culture.
People are heavy-lifting the Overton Window to the right by making *really* compelling content. (This goes back too! I’m thinking of things like the Alex Jones Gay Frogs rant—which is odious and objectively very funny.)
