Artificial intelligence is reshaping modern technology and digital workflows.
Yet one of the most relevant formats in the AI era dates back to 2004.Markdown has become central to AI-generated content because it is readable, portable, and interoperable by design. In my latest article, I explore its evolution through the lens of technology, digital rights, privacy, and data sovereignty.

It's kind of fun sending and org-mode file to an llm. Especially one with lots of heading properties or tags. -

LLMs haven't been trained in the variety of goodies that can be stuck in an org-mode properies drawer, and org-mode heading tags are inline with the heading. It's a near guarantee to get weird output. But it's perfectly readable for a human, even without the formatting provided by the emacs org-mode environment.

Excellent point! The article explicitly acknowledges this: AI doesn't 'choose' Markdown intentionally—the pattern emerges from training data (GitHub, Stack Overflow, technical docs). Org-mode is indeed equally human-readable, but its smaller footprint in training corpora explains the difference. This actually reinforces the broader point: format adoption creates network effects that AI amplifies.
