"Routine headcount reductions" is such a dystopian phrase.
It's why, though I've always dreamed of running a business, I know I'm exactly the sort of person that Big Capital would keep away from the levers of ownership.
To me, to my philosophy of enterprise, any time you dismiss someone for anything other than actual cause is a failure on your part as an owner.

Granted, I have a really weird philosophy of enterprise. Even when I'm at my most pie-eyed scheming-and-dreaming apex, my highest ambition as Head Moron In Charge is always some flavour of "Quality product produced and everyone makes a living".
That's it. No "next year will always be bigger than last", no "market leader on thing", just... Idk, a business card to be proud of and a chicken in every pot.

@patcharcana you should dream bigger; for example, my dream is «quality product produced by people passionate about it and being able to making a living with it».
