    TWIMC - As you may know, the fediverse group for interested people "palestine(at)a.gup.pe" is now gone.

    There are alternatives such as FediGroups or TagPush, already contacted, but no reaction till now. No wonder they're busy.

    But we don't want to wait longer, and it turned out that a Japanese server "fedibird" kindly offered a group account for us:

    @palestine

    It functions almost like the late a.gup.pe group, only you need to follow it in order to be boosted, not only to receive the group post.

    One other note: the account holder is @adachika192 (AK) and can moderate e.g. delete posts and block accounts if (strictly) needed. Better than 100% automated bot.

    You know, it truly would "work" with a certain number of followers, and we hope you all to 1)consider following the new group, and 2)spread this info as broad as possible.

In Gaza, the dead — at least 68,229 people, by the latest count — have been tallied by the Ministry of Health, which is, like other government services in the enclave, run by Hamas. This has stirred skepticism, to say the least. But experts in counting war dead told me that the ministry’s accounting has been unusually rigorous. It includes not just individual names of people confirmed to have died because of the war but also their ages, their sex and, crucially, easily validated identification numbers.“The Ministry of Health, we know, for various reasons, is really conservative actually in putting people on the list,” Michael Spagat, a professor at Royal Holloway, University of London, who has studied the toll of war for decades, told me. There is, he said, a remarkable level of transparency. “The information is incomparably better than what we know about recent conflicts in Tigray, Sudan, South Sudan.”In fact, for all the tally’s trustworthiness, many experts suspect it to be a significant undercount. Spagat and a group of researchers undertook a 2,000-household survey in Gaza that suggested that the official figures were likely to be undercounting the number of people killed in the war by roughly 39 percent.The fatality figures, though, do not distinguish between fighters and civilians. This fact provides another claim: that most of those killed are Hamas fighters and so legitimate targets.     Right, everyone, I spoke to @seengoals and the two account creation attempts on different friendly servers (https://gaza-verified.org/guide#servers/) was actually him.He hadn’t realised this was against the rules.I’ve now asked him if he does actually one to migrate to one of the two servers as it will help us to protect his account better in the future or if he wants to stay on mastodon.social.I will update both admins with his decision and we’ll sort it out.(He has to travel for Internet access and it isn’t safe so bear with us.)For the time being, his only verified account is @seengoals But it wasn’t the insulin scammer as we previously thought trying to impersonate him :)😮‍💨CC @trumpet @Admin
