Hey #mastodon đ Does anyone know if it's possible to filter posts from a specific user?
So, for example â User BFF posts mainly about mountains and potatoes. I love BFF's mountain posts and want to keep seeing them but I disagree with BFF's opinion on potatoes.
Is there a way to set a filter that hides BFF's posts on potatoes, but still lets me see everyone else's posts on potatoes?

@beach What I do is mute that user for 6h or a day. But Iâm using Ivory and thatâs easy to do, donât know if thatâs possible in other apps.

@beach filters are not that sophisticated server-side, but some clients might support them as a plus.

I'm losing his contributions about mountains.
And it's not that I'm not interested in potatoes, I just don't want to see that guy opinions on potatoes.We really need to block an account's opinion on potatoes.

@vaporeon_ I used to main gentoo, but that was probably around 2005 give or take. The main thing I remember is foss project maintainers tend to get really annoyed when you report bugs that were caused by building with -O3 đ
I don't mind having multi day long compilation jobs to install or update packages, I know to plan accordingly. I wouldn't mind pointers on how to get the most out of modern gentoo though.

In case it helps, I followed this article to set up building binary packages on the faster machine and installing them on the slower machine: https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Gentoo_Binary_Host_Quickstart
Problem is that that requires an existing Gentoo machine, though... Or doing some stuff with Docker on a machine that runs some other distro, I guess
But compiling on a Core 2 Duo itself is 100% possible if you're OK with letting big compiles (like Clang and GCC) run overnight

Designing PLA to Hold Over a Metric Ton
Thereâs never been such a thing as being âtoo competitiveâ when it comes to competition. This is something that [Tom Stanton] from Tim Stanton (wait, what now), [Tom]âs 2nd channel, took to heart for Polymakerâs 3D design challenge. The goal was simple: a single 3D printed part to hold as much weight as possible.
While seemingly simple, when considering the requirements, including a single print in addition to being able to open up for the mounts, the challenge gets exponentially more complicated. While the simplest and strongest joint would be a simple oval for uniform stress, this isnât possible when considering the opening requirements. This creates a need for slightly more creativity.
[Tom] starts out with two flat C-shaped geometries to test his design. The design includes teeth specially placed to allow the forces to increase their own strength as force is applied. Flat features have the unfortunate quality of being able to slide across each other rather easily, which was the case during testing; however, the actual structures held up rather well. Moving onto the final design, including a hollow cavity and a much thicker depth, showed good promise early on in the competition, leading up to the finals. In fact, the design won out over anything else, getting over double the max strength of the runner up. Over an entire metric ton, the piece of plastic proved its abilities far past anything us here at Hackaday would expect from a small piece of PLA.
Design can be an absolute rabbit hole when it comes to even the simplest of things, as shown with this competition. [Tom] clearly showed some personal passion for this project; however, if you havenât had the chance to dive this deep into CADing, keep sure to try out something like TinkerCAD to get your feet wet. TinkerCAD started out simple as can be but has exploded into quite the formidable suite!
