RE: https://mstdn.social/@rysiek/115904617539822735This is actually kinda important. You see, some of us called this back in ye earlie '10s, that there was no viable business case for VR to justify Meta's investment - we were of course poo-poo'ed, because if a company the size of Meta wants something to happen, they'll make it happen. Turns out no, they will not, because even with billions upon billions to burn, even Meta can't make something out of nothing. We, The Market™️, rejected this. We have more power than we think. #ai #tech

Painting in Metal with Selective Electroplating. Most research on electroplating tries to find ways to make it plate parts more uniformly. [Ajc150] took the opposite direction, though, with his selective electroplating project, which uses an electrode mounted on a CNC motion system to electrochemically print images onto a metal sheet.https://github.com/ajc150/Selective-Electroplating/tree/main#cnc #electroplating #diy #engineering #media #tech #maker #art #python #programming #news

Really interesting teen subculture: straightedge #noAI art kids. (They're developing IT skills just to turn off or avoid "AI" slop—this gives me hope for the future)For a lot of these kids (I've also heard them called the "AI vegans") a big college decision is coming up. And colleges, unfortunately, have middle managers who mandate fad-chasing just as much as other organizations do.How to make a college short list that will be compatible with not being required to play with slop for 4 years?

Australian software engineer Sarah Spencer hacked a 1980's knitting machine to create "Stargazing: a knitted tapestry" to show the universe in a unique way. 🇦🇺Sarah explains, “By using a floppy drive emulator written in Python and a web interface, I can send an image to the Raspberry Pi over the network, preview it in a knitting grid, and tell it to send the knitting pattern to the knitting machine via the floppy drive port ... https://magazine.raspberrypi.com/articles/knitting-network-printer#WomensArt #Tech #Knitting #raspberrypi
