What's a game that made you cry?
For me, a certain ending in Life is Strange 😭😭😭
@catsalad@infosec.exchange I don't play shallow games, as a rule. (The rule has exceptions. Sometimes I'm just looking for mindless mayhem that I don't have to think about too much.) If it doesn't involve me, it won't interest me.
And that means there are moments in quite a few games that... well, may not actually make me cry, but tug at my heartstrings. Usually people you can't save even though you should be able to. In Fallout 4, when the Brotherhood of Steel assaults the Railroad headquarters, even if you don't let even a single Brotherhood knight within two corridor turns of even having a line of fire for a shot at a Railroad Heavy enforcer named Glory, when you're done dealing with them and return to her position, she will be on the ground bleeding out, and you can't save her. Her death is fixed in the script. Bastards.
In Mass Effect ... 3, I think, there is an Asari companion named Samira. Her loyalty mission involves attempting to rescue her daughters when the Ardat-Yakshi monastery is invaded by Reaper forces. You can only save one. The other will blow herself up to destroy a group of Reaper Banshees (Asari subverted and mutated by the Reapers). You can't save her.
But there's a worse one. In Ghost Recon: Breakpoint, you will during the story meet a Dr. Sigrid Bloom. You will find out that she is brave, determined, resourceful, altogether admirable. You will probably come to like her a lot. If the game featured an in-game romance mechanism, Sigrid would be my romance interest of choice.
And then after not allowing you to offer her sanctuary and protection after she's put herself on the line in front of the ruthless and amoral opposing forces, Ubisoft's bastard writers fridged her, offscreen, to fuck with another NPC.
I will never buy another Ubisoft game. Ubisoft can go fuck themselves. -

@catsalad All 3 major endings of Signalis, but one of them was particularly bad.

I am forever traumatized by the game of Perfection from my childhood.
Keep that shit away from me. I'm not perfect and don't need the reminder.
@Waitnwallflower That's the game that popped and scared the crap out of you when the timer was up, right?

Life is Strange certainly made me cry, as did 1000xResist, Ultima 7 Part 2: Serpent Isle, The Longest Journey, Divinity: Original Sin 2, Enderal, Mass Effect 3, probably more. i cry pretty easily to be honest, but the ones i named here have some really incredibly moving scenes and stories.

@catsalad Death Stranding.
Not that I've played more than a few hours of it, however. You see, it was the first game I got after a certain life event which was proving quite stressful, and I was looking forward to some escapism, but one of the game mechanics instantly turned me into a blubbering wreck.
So, yeah, don't buy that game when you're looking after a new baby.

@catsalad Journey. I played that game solo in an almost meditative state. By the end I think it was the closest thing I am ever going to get to a religious experience.
