I mean a lot of people get really hooked on "fascism is about what you believe." But arguing that idea, no matter how distinguished the historian who does it is, totally misses the point that the fascist is ultimately post-belief. He exists in a mental and emotional space where "the truth" is no longer related to any concept of what is "real" that you or I would recognize. Truth, and power, are inseparable for adherents to the ethos - I'm not even sure calling it an ideology is valid, given that

The fascist does not "believe" anything - or rather he believes ANYTHING that justifies the accumulation and exercise of power, preferably through violent means, in the moment. If he needs to believe A, to be a fascist today, he believes A. And if he needs to renounce A tomorrow and now believe B, he does that too.

So fascism cannot, ultimately be about what you believe. Cause what they believe, is subject to rapid, irrational degrees of change.

Fascism, is what you do.

And once you realize that fascism is something you do, not something you believe - you begin to realize that there are a lot more fascists running roughshod in the halls of power in the Pig Empire than anyone who profits from that arrangement today, would like you to notice.

(This btw, is why debating them is pointless. Because they are not arguing to establish that their "ideas" are better - they are merely, always, seeking to create space for fascists to seize power, and then purge their "enemies" via the accumulation of that power.

This is why they're kinda telling on themselves when they call you an NPC and complain that you're running a dialog tree - every accusation, is a confession.)

(The fascist argument style is to literally try different canned arguments gleaned from nazi "intellectuals" in rapid succession, until they find something you personally don't have a response to, at which point they skullfuck the moment for all it's worth until emotionally, it appears that you have "lost" a debate you already WON 50 times while the Nazi just kept changing the subject because you were prepared for that particular canned argument.)
