Are we all millenials here or is that a misperception?

@Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis I don't feel lucky. I feel like I'm watching all my hopes and dreams be torn down for good, just as they were about to finally be within reach. The stuff I worked toward my whole life... I worked toward it for nothing. All the angst, trying to be good enough for my parents and then my children, only to find out it was pointless because it doesn't matter what I do or did. The world has turned to a giant dumpster fire, and I don't know how we will ever climb out of it.
@hosford42 @Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis
how are you doing fellow Xennial? Take care yourself. I'm where you are right now and I sometimes have to pull away from it all and dive into something completely unrelated to the world around me. I've watched most of my friends and family struggle. It is bleak right now and I'm not going to sugarcoat it. It is very scary.
But you're not alone. Stay strong. Once history turns over again, we'll be needed to help with our unique insights and wisdom as children somewhere between two arbitrarily defined albeit unique generations.
Apes, together, strong.

@hosford42 @Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis this encapsulates what I consider the defining feature of us xennials.
It's not as simple as technology - I spent large amounts of my single digit childhood on a 48k Spectrum, while many of my peers barely touched a computer until late teens.
It's more about us living on the edge of a cliff. We are the tipping point between GenX who could reliably do the career-house-kids-stability thing, and Millennials who had that future ripped from them. Whether any individual of us managed to cling onto the cliff is largely due to chance.@jetlagjen @hosford42 @Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis
me and my hand-me-down TI/99/4a computer agree with you!
Chance has a lot to do with it.

Are we all millenials here or is that a misperception?
Could people boozt this? I am so curious.
Are you a:
@thordis Jones

Yes, many (not all) were certainly happy to kick the ladders away in the 80s, and that generation's luck has continued with triple-locked, final salary pensions.
I read something recently about European counties where Boomers had higher incomes in retirement than the average salary of working people, but this seems to be changing for more recent retirees thanks to retirement age increases and taxes.

@thordis *extreme nerdy voice* aktschually I'm a cusp year that's Xennial, but I identify more with millennials than gen X so that's what I chose.

I hate having to google the definitions of these nonsense labels. -
@leffe Interesting!
I'm still figuring out the federated aspect of it all, so I actually thought I was directing the question only at the fork-people (the forks? the forksters?)
@thordis
Yeah, I decided you must think you're addressing only forkiverse people. I actually had to look up forkiverse, and ended up looking at the transcript of the first episode of the NYT's Hard Fork podcast. There are millions of currently active fediverse users so the spread of responses you get will depend on how well federated the forkiverse is. -

@thordis genuinely disappointed to see there aren't as many zoomers (like me) on the fediverse. </3
I mean, I know the reasons why, but it's not as bad as some of them make it look like
-
@thordis
Yeah I'm a Millennial (Generation Y) born Dec 18th 1983.
LOLz Boomers are only 13%, that's because for Boomers to be able vote on here they would need someone to help them vote becasue it's Tech/the Internet🤣@ETARD_The_LifeCaster mmm nope. Booxers invented this shit, chief. @thordis

@thordis It's a misconception. To make people believe that they are all born with common traits, a bit like a way of putting them in little boxes, is an illusion.
I could understand it for major changes (the war in particular and what shortly followed). But today... Do we have to have a name worthy of the Apple brand on our backs?

@FuturisticRobert @Clem @szczurtorebkowy @thordis
First I have to survive. I have lost my job *again*, at the worst possible time *again*. I have no savings, because I used them all up last time I was laid off, and didn't get the chance to build them back up. I don't even know how I'm going to feed my kids tonight. And the job market is *destroyed* for people in my field. (Non-LLM machine learning) Add the tariffs and the oncoming economic downturn they're projecting, and we are screwed.

@hosford42 @FuturisticRobert @szczurtorebkowy @thordis there's always money in the banana stand chk-CHK
Edit - I should explain. I wasn't trying to be trite about your situation at all even though it looks like I clearly am in retrospect. That was more pointing out how generational wealth breeds the inability to notice others struggles. If you always have a banana stand in your family, you don't have to worry about the day-to-day of people without a banana stand

@thordis Voted Other since I squarely fit into the dead middle of Xennial.

I’m a very very old “millennial” or a very very young gen X— not shocked by these results though.
@futurebird @thordis i think we're born in the same year or at least within 1 year of each other, which means most people i've seen born 2-3 years before us who talk about the x/y boundary tend to identify either as millennials or xennials...
