Beautiful.
We are in the depths of winter cold here, but we’ve gone through a number of freeze-thaw-extreme-cold cycles since November that will almost certainly result in some dead perennials in our garden this spring. I might see if I can find a native version of witch hazel as a replacement this year.

@helenclayton they're so magical. I've never seen one in person and I love it when they start appearing on my timeline here.

@dillyd aren’t they. This one is in my sight line when I’m standing at the hob so no idea how I missed it before. I can’t think it wouldn’t have flowered. The other one I bought is orange (will take a pic) but I’ve put it in the wrong place so I’ll relocate it. They provide a splash of colour at an otherwise grey time.

@KimberlyN that sounds like a great idea. We need winter colour!

@helenclayton I wonder if it didn’t flower last year, or not much, my friend’s didn’t, he sent a photo at ‘peak flowering’, with two scrawny flowers.

@anamckellar yes, a friend said the same of hers yesterday. This is a good year for them apparently.

@helenclayton some people say that the different colour varieties have difference in how much scent they produce. How is your experience with this?

@Chris I’ve only got two and one is only small so I can’t say that I’ve noticed. When it’s not blowing a hooley and/or raining I shall check.
