PSA: directfile.irs.gov is dead. Not even a "we're closed" message with alternatives. Instead of going back to Turbotax or H&R Block, use freetaxusa.com. Ridiculous name, legitimate business. Federal filing is free. State is $16. Happily using it for the last 5 years. No referral code, just spreading the word.
@jeromechoo I'll second that recommendation. Used TurboTax for years grudgingly, then H&R for a couple, and FreeTaxUSA for the most recent 4 or 5 with bacially no complaints.
I do think some of their info/help text for certain sections used to be pretty sparse, but I've def noticed it be improved in the past year or two.

Don't recommend FileYourTaxes.com, as they couldn't deal with my name change.

@bryan a couple of the alcohol-related deaths were most directly attributable to suicide, but it was addiction that put them in that spot. I think only one was directly from liver failure.* One of the auto deaths was also alcohol-related.
*-But, surprisingly young. So, when I say "only one of my friends died of liver failure at 50" the word "only" is working really hard. The expected number is 0.

For my friends / kids I grew up with that are close enough to follow… Suicide tied with car wrecks at #1. Did have new friends die of cancer. But old crew is firmly in the wrecking car or suicide bucket.
