There are some big improvements to the multi-page functionality in the upcoming version of Inkscape - in case anyone runs into bugs. -

It uses a cloned layer system, so what you can't see is that it automatically updates both composite and individual pages at the same time.

@cassidy Cool. I played around with the multi-page feature in 1.4.0, and it was still a bit underwhelming. Seems to have evolved nicely. 😃

@cassidy i used this the other day for a zine that i've made. do you know if there's any nice way to edit the template to export the pages in order (for a pdf to be read on-screen)?

You shouldn't need to edit the template. You can use the Export dialog, Page tab, and select PDF from the dropdown. You'll then be able to deselect the zine page and all the other pages will be exported into the pdf as regular pages.

I added this into 1.4, so it's not more advanced than what you've already seen. (not yet, I haven't had time, busy with the cmyk work) but this is a particular setup of pages and layers which I carefully crafted as a template. The features are there, but the interface isn't all the way where I want it to be.

@NebulaTide Signal is great, but I don't love it's still centralised and controlled by a single entity. But it's still a great option.
