  • I'm having this issue with every Firefox based browser (Firefox, Floorp, Librewolf, ...)..

    Whenever I leave the browser open for a few days (for example when I only close the lid on my laptop), it slowly becomes almost unresponsive on heavier sites such as Youtube, especially with more than one YOutube tab open in the background - to the state where a simple pause of seek takes several seconds, sometimes up to maybe 20 - or when the tab is still playing the video even though it was closed seconds ago... etc.. basically, there's a lag with every action on Youtube. The same browser on other pages, working just fine, everything else on the computer is also working just fine.

    This is how it works on my slower i3-6300 based laptop (my bed companion), it's a bit better with a newer and more powerful hardware, but still visible.. and annoying.

    It is not a lack of RAM, once it starts to behave like this, I can close those tabs and it still happens even with only one youtube tab open. According to the "top" command, I have plenty of RAM available, with another huge amount only occupied by the cache.

    And when I restart the browser, even with 20-30 youtube tabs loaded, it works just fine, for a day or two, then it starts to slow down...

    I am obviously using an adblock, so it crossed my mind that's the reason but honestly, I'm not sure what's more annoying - a slow browser that can be "cured" by a restart or the internet with ads 🙂

    Anyone with the same experience? Or maybe even a solution?

    @peterkotrcka I'm sure you thought about this, but just checking - do you have other extensions (beyond the ad blocker)? Have you tried without them?

    @peterkotrcka you can try https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/task-manager-tabs-or-extensions-are-slowing-firefox and see if an addon starts using too much resources after day or two.

  • @tppetkov thank you

    I'm having the same problem with open YouTube tabs and my adblockers running.
    As I couldn't find a solution I switched to Vivaldi.

    @dyrathror also a solution 🙂

    @peterkotrcka

    "Auto tab discard" might prevent some of the causes.

    @freezr That kind of works, yes.. but the problem is I have several unfinished videos open at the same time so I'm afraid to "kill" those tabs because I might lose the current position in the video. But I will test that..

    @peterkotrcka probably the ad blocker as per your post. Find Newpipe on phone better for remembering video positions.

    @ohir I do fear you are right.Right now it's quite some muddy waters, where several forks appearing. And some have even disappeared. These muddy waters need to calm down at some point.For a fork to be sustainable, it need to have enough contributors and users. Contributors need to cover development, needed infrastructure, support and (what you mention) finances to keep things rolling.I don't think it's sustainable that we have so many forks appearing these days. The strongest ones of them should unite and setup a non-profit organisation, which others could join as well. Perhaps using a similar model as Codeberg.With such a joint effort, the marketing towards end users can be much more uniform and targetted, which would be easier for users to relate to. Just as Firefox managed to take over the position of Netscape (even though Firefox was spun out of Netscape, so not directly comparable).I would truly encourage @librewolf, @zenbrowser, @Waterfox, @konform and other forks to get together and look at the possibilities to collaborate on a broader scale. I don't say they should abandon their own "uniqueness", but that they can find a way to help contribute to a more healthy and sustainable environment for important forks to actually survive and be sustainable. Have something "shared" at the core across all forks, where they can build their own uniqueness from. Have a shared vision and mission statement, have a united front for a privacy respecting browser family.

    @GustavinoBevilacqua he may also have some unexpected luck with the multi-bit small screwdrivers sets... I just checked mine and it does have a 1.3 and 0.9 hex bit (probably actually 2 and 3 64th of an inch?)Also, maybe it's obvious but: did he check his guitar bag? I'm almost certain that my guitar came with the relevant hex keys (now, where did they end up it's an entirely different matter)
