Will be a different christmas for me this year.
My partner died earlier this year, my plans to go and visit my daughter, her husband and all of his family went up into smoke after I got sick on sunday and I'm still recovering. So that's that.
I could go and briefly visit my elders but chances are I could spread it to them, too.
So I will be pragmatic. I'm staying home, preparing some steamed veggies for my christmas meal, hoping my stomach doesn't hurt after that having a long walk and probl. make some tea and try a biscuit afterwards. At last I might turn on the tellly and watch some fairy tales, the last Unicorn or Astrid Lindgren's Emil/Michel and maybe check how things are at Nakatomi Tower and then call it a day.
I feel unexplicably calm. Don't feel anger, despair or dissappointment. Maybe a bit of melancholy maybe. 2025 was a difficult year in itself for me and my family. Why should christmas time be different, now.

@Tionisla It's the holidays that really highlight the differences. They are landmarks - 'a year ago today' or 'five years ago today' - and they make the absence of those who are gone feel even heavier.
That's why, these days, I love ordinary days. Normal life. Normal thoughts. So, my wish for you this year is to have a normal day, dedicated to doing the things you enjoy and that make you feel good while you recharge.
You are here and, I hope, will be for many, many more years. There will be other Christmases. And your daughter will be waiting for you in the days to follow, too.

I know what you mean, what you said about ordinary life. It kind of feels now I was taken some steps back and to watch the whole holiday stuff from the sidelines. Odd experience.

Ai tempi, quando mi presentavo dicendo "Ciao, mi chiamo Fabio" negli Stati Uniti, notavo una reazione strana.
Come se avessi detto: "BELANDI, SONO IL GABIBBO."
E in fondo l'effetto era quello.
Lui è Fabio Lanzoni, noto semplicemente come FABIO. Divenne famoso perché faceva il modello discinto sulle copertine dei romanzi rosa, poi è diventato un personaggio pubblico.
FABIO negli USA era inequivocabilmente lui. Il tester ha giustamente gridato all'odio razziale.

Il gioco non era ancora uscito, quindi per provare il multiplayer avevo giocato su un server privato con Zampella e il team dei tester.
Vince, giustamente, mi chiamava "Fabio" nella chat vocale. Mi chiamo così, in fondo.
Dopo circa un'ora di gioco, uno dei tester si fa avanti, prende il coraggio a due mani e dice al suo capo:
"Ok che è italiano, ma non per questo devi chiamarlo Fabio. È una cosa razzista!"
Lì per lì rimasi basito.

Activision aveva diviso il conto tra i vari territori. La filiale italiana aveva ricevuto la mia parte di conto.
"No, guarda, tutto bene, non c'è problema, anche se ovviamente siamo rimasti basiti da Infinity Ward. Ma davvero, siamo curiosi, cosa avete mangiato per spendere così tanto?"
Al che ho scoperto quanto era costata la mia parte di conto: 3000 e rotti dollari.

Ovviamente hanno mandato il conto ad Activision, perché sfamare i giornalisti era una spesa che doveva spettare a chi aveva i diritti del gioco.
Più si va in alto, più la gente potente si comporta come i bambini che fanno GNE GNE.
Tornato a casa, ancora svalvolato dal fuso orario, ricevo una telefonata della PR, che voleva chiedermi come mi fosse parso il gioco e se fosse andato tutto bene.
Poi, prima di chiudere la telefonata, molla per un attimo la veste professionale e mi chiede...
