it turns out that the real "blue sky credible exit" was the mastodon account you signed up for in 2023 and then never used because you have to copy and paste a url into a box sometimes and people ask you to have empathy for disabled people

@aeva I use this which avoids the need for copying and pasting in 90% of situations. When you try to interact with any post in another mastodon instance it opens up in yours.

@starsider
oh nice. Do you know if there is one that “captures” links you come across when browsing your own instance? (As in: a post has a link to another post somewhere in the Fediverse. Normally I have to drag it onto the “Search or paste URL” box within the same page, but it would be nice if I could just click on it and have it loaded in there directly.) -

@joshix @starsider @aeva I'm guessing some UserJS / Greasemonkey might suffice. I'll see if I can give it a go.

@aeva@mastodon.gamedev.place Huh, what is credible exit? I've heard people over on Bluskey talk about it in terms of whether or not that platform is truly decentralized, but I haven't learned yet what it really is

@radmin mental gymnastics and propaganda. you don't need to have a "credible exit" if your service actually is decentralized

@radmin it's a conceptual safety blanket that does nothing

@starsider @oblomov the closest thing I'm aware of would be https://streetpass.social/, but that's more for collecting user handles as you browse the web, not collecting links from your timeline.

@baralheia @starsider oh yeah, I have that installed and it's nice seeing how often it lights up, even when the page doesn't have visible links to Fedi profiles. But yeah, doesn't handle the link stuff.
