I don't know why but I feel like Godot is a bit closed to me in terms of deeper extensibility. For instance, I don't know how to use their RHI and, even though this kind of stuff is actually my work, I feel like I wouldn't be able to properly integrate advanced stuff in the engine. I don't know where to start from and how to make stuff the proper way.

It's probably not that difficult. Heck, I almost made thin film interference work shader-wise and I even added parameters to the material class and all. Though, I have no idea how I'd make stuff like injecting a compute dispatch and wait on it in the same frame.

@Ronflaix last time i looked at godot's internals there was no rhi. it was just a horrific mess of spaghetti with rendering code strewn all over the place

@Ronflaix this was about 5 to 10 years ago though so take that with a grain of salt

@aeva yeah, they have "servers" now, some kind of low-to-mid level abstractions. The RenderingServer looks like I could work with it but I have found no guidance in how to use it in more advanced situations than the tutorials telling you to dispatch and immediately wait on GPU idle on that, which is, mmh
