@pfefferle hi! I’ve installed the plugin on my site nescia.nl/anna, which is a sub-blog using Wordpress multisite. It has created @anna but doesn’t seem to post anything. (There is a subsite “anna” and a user “anna” which posts most but not all blogs on the site.) Are there things I need to configure in the plugin?

@venite @anna that is, because WordPress does not support subfolder blogs out of the box.

@pfefferle I saw that, but isn’t the multisite thing native wordpress? That is, nescia.nl is a Wordpress site itself and /anna is one of multiple subsites. Won’t I break those?

@venite this is mainly a specification issue/requirement. WebFinger (Mastodon uses that for @username@domain.tld identifiers) has to run in the domain root. So if you map this root WebFinger handler to one of the subfolder blogs, this will be the only one that is possible to federate. This is why we do not have a default handling for that. Happy to explain it in more detail (not that easy with only 500 chars 😉):

@pfefferle yes… stop people from posting entire 6 page articles on here. It ruins the timelines and makes everything unreadable! 😵💫

@pfefferle Could you recommend a trick to auto insert the Reactions Block under all posts on a classic theme? For example, I could add it using an 'ad inserter' if there was a shortcode. Could I do something similar with a copy-pasted snippet of full code? Thanks!

"After adding this code, you'll see a Template Parts option in your WordPress admin under Appearance."
But I don't. I added the new function to a couple of blogs with no apparent change to the Appearance menu. There is a Patterns option but that was already there. Is that the same thing as Template Parts?

@pfefferle No, because the first step apparently hasn't worked, so I didn't move onto the next step. More likely, I'm misunderstanding the instructions. Are you saying the Template Parts option in the admin under Appearance will only appear if I create a parts folder (with e.g. FTP), and put the specified html file in it (with e.g. FTP)?

@pfefferle I also added the php snippet to the post template as per the final step. But no block appears on the front end. I put a little test <p>position for fediverse block</p> alongside the php snippet and that appears on the front end, so the location is correct.
So, no idea what I'm doing wrong, I've double checked every step. The site I'm trying to set it up on is https://monstertoyblog.com

And no, Black people can't exist here without being bothered unless they're on an unmoderated instance. For example, right now, I, a proud son of Africa, I'm being bothered by some weirdo with Zaire in their handle, that's trying to tell me how moderation works on the Fediverse.

@mekkaokereke the very inherent factors that let nazis set up camp on the Fediverse work both ways. good people can hang out here on the fediverse without being interfered with by any state or corporation. and said good people can, and do fediblock the fuck out of the vocal minority of fash. I absolutely do not see how this is in any way worse for Black people than oligarch-controlled centralized spaces that range only from fascist to mediocrily centrist.

This only means anything if you’re on an unmoderated instance yourself. and even then, I figure it’s because BS has 200 times less instances in general…?
Mind you, I do think myself quite clever, and I do think the Fediverse is morally superior to the fascist-platforming BS, and I have good reasons for it.

You prioritize anti-corp as most important, and that's fine for you. I define anti-racism and safety for Black people as mine. When the Fediverse is less dangerous for Black people than all the other social media, I'll encourage more people to come to it. Until that day, I'll work to make that true, and I'll tell people like you to pipe down when they try to pretend that the Fediverse today is some type of utopia, or even morally superior to BlueSky. It's not.
But it could be.

I have to properly do it in wafrn, but its a good idea tbh. Its GTS interaction policies, more software should implement it! Me included
