@Edent Uhhhhhh... that behaviour is _illegal_ under GDPR. You're _required_ to be able to utterly blast _your data_ to smithereens. Reddit's solved this... (I've been eyeballs deep in GDPR for _weeks_ because some Amerikaanse klootzak won't delete my data...)

Which is depressing af b/c I was _considering_ Matrix as an alternative in light of Signal's insistence on AWS US-EAST1... but what you just pointed out makes it a non-starter...

@Edent There's a lot of things that suck in matrix but it's the one ecosystem that actually makes accessing it easy (hence the spam problem, perhaps).

For example, what's signal's official stance on how users without Android or iOS should create an account?

@Edent Not to discount your experience with whatever official app was used, but the Element web client has been consistently worked wherever I had a web browser (and in the past the Element android app), even if slow and sluggish.

I appreciate what they're trying to achieve. I agree that the client and moderation tools situation is poor. You read about bigger communities like GrapheneOS slowly preferring Discord because of it. (Which in context of taking moderation action has a much, much worse track record than Matrix)

No, they're pretty much the same. I'm in a large number of group chats on Signal. It works better than Matrix for that.

Re moderation. I've never been bombarded with hate messages and spam on either Signal or Discord. So they're obviously doing something right
