Here's my first Mastodon post!
My mission out here? To understand and promote Mastodon, the only large European social media platform (to my knowledge).
How can we make more Europeans come to the Fediverse?@hpod16 talk about loud about Mastodon as an alternative as well as other digital tools replacing Big Techs.
I don't read anything about activities like #digitalindependanceday or others.
And that Denmark has an app to avoid or replace US goods is remarkable too. EU should talk about, even DT might get angry -
@hpod16 The Fediverse is global, but Europe has a lot of instances and users.
The EU institutions should have own instances
and „all“ of the Parliament an account.@karlos there is an instance by the European Commission, but not by the European Parliament, so you make a fair point. A project for the future could be to get all EU institutions onto one EU Instance...

How can we make more Europeans come to the Fediverse?@hpod16 We need more press coverage of the fediverse and stuff like "share on fedi" next to "share on Facebook" and the like. It should be normalized for media and business to be on fedi as well.
So from your standpoint you could fight for public press releases of the EU to include links to official fedi accounts for example.

I can tell you there are people working on this.
Mastodon was recently included under the "share more" option, but I'll admit it could be even more prominent. It's a first step, more steps to come. -

Maybe it would make sense to migrate to using the term "fediverse" as well. Away from the product Mastodon, because there are also other products available and competing with their commercial counterparts like Friendica (alternative to Facebook), Pixelfed (alternative to Instagram) and Loops (alternative to TikTok).
(Not to mention various smaller projects and forks or alternatives to Mastodon as well)

you may have to explain to me this difference between Mastodon and fediverse. It's one of these things I don't fully understand yet (be kind, I'm new)@hpod16 sure. The fediverse basically is a network of services that can communicate with another.
Mastodon is one of these services offering a micro blogging service like Twitter.
Pixelfed for example is a service for image posting.
So these services have different features, but as they're connected to the fediverse, people from Mastodon can follow and communicate with people from Pixelfed.
I'll leave out the technical blob on how this all works but it just does. 😅

How was/is your onbording experience?
A lot tech savvy people I know, simply say it is still too complicated and either don’t sign up, or when signed up struggle to find content and let their accounts go stale.
It took some work but with hashtags and starter packs I found all I need. Some people are even missing algorithms even though mobile clients mimic them 🤷♂️

It's one of these things I don't fully understand yet (be kind, I'm new)@hpod16 @der_schrank another fairly good analogy is email: if a Mastodon instance (server) is an email provider, like Gmail or an organisation's own email server, then the Fediverse would be email as an interoperable technology. Gmail and Outlook work very differently and have their own features and apps, but you can still send messages between these systems.

@adriananselmo @vonblubba Perdomani, ho letto e interpretato male il primo messaggio. Non mi sto riferendo a chi deve essere reperibile ma agli altri. Voi siete esclusi.
Personalmente, per me ha senso, visto che il telefono/sveglia mi permette di essere granulare nell'impostazione giornaliera, cosa che una normale sveglia non fa. In più ho risparmiato soldi e salvato un dispositivo dal macero.
Non giudico nessuno, ci mancherebbe. La mia è semplice curiosità.

@fucinafibonacci @giochi sono di sinistra, e mi piace giovare a Crusader King II, come Civilization e compagnia. Questo articolo del post è fatto male, come se la colpa fosse di paradox o del gioco e non di quelle teste bacate che si radicalizzerebbero in ogni modo.
Poi non ci gioco da un po', ma mi pare di ricordare che puoi prendere il controllo anche di una casata islamica e difenderti dagli europei.
Sicuro si potevano fare unioni miste ed allearsi con i saraceni.
