@fesshole In France, stores are not allowed to throw out perfectly good food anymore. They have to give it to food banks. It's the law.

It's a good suggestion though. :)
We used to have another one, Throw No More I think it was? Which would list all discounted goods due to expiring sell-by-dates/use-by-dates from various shops, but unfortunately that's not available anymore as several other grocery stores have implemented similiar functionality into their own individual apps... so now you have to check several apps instead of a single one. :( Again, not free though.

I love it, it means I'll try things I wouldn't otherwise buy and I spend less doing it.
I don't think I've often gone on to buy the products at full price, but I do have a freezer full of organic meat.

@severtz same here. They are usually the first shelves I browse through. Though some shops are better at it than others. Yesterday I saw bags of mixed lettuce at the local Coop Extra that were so soggy and discoloured that I can't imagine anyone buying them...

@shadowwwind @fesshole@FiXato @shadowwwind @fesshole UK? In the shops I go to there it's usually yellow stickers, ironically very similar to the security stickers on expensive products!
What I watch then is the discount. 10% off is not worth it, especially if the "meal deal" price is lower.

@severtz Norway. Usually it's 40%-50%, though some go up to 70% (though then the expiration date usually has passed several days).

They have to catch you first.
Most fesshole posters are in UK, and in the suburbs of a provincial town during the evenings and weekends there are few cops around and those who are on duty are occupied with stuff like DUI, domestic violence and other real crimes and don't have the resources to go chasing someone raiding bins who will likely be long gone by the time the patrol vehicle even gets there..

I've also seen it used as a pretext to raid and clear out encampments.

the manager at a supermarket near some posh flats in an affluent suburb of Reading, SE England (a bit like British Seattle) once pulled the breaker on the outside lighting so yuppies wouldn't see folk raiding the skip and call the cops (he was fed up with being woken up in the night by the cops, and even the officers weren't too happy about being sent some distance, this was in the days when radio scanners still worked and I heard them grumbling about the callout)

Building a Rad Bluetooth Speaker that Didn’t Really Exist
[Nick] came across an awesome Bluetooth speaker online, only, there was a problem. It didn’t really exist—it was just a render of a device that would be nice to have. Of course, there was an obvious solution—[Nick] just had to build the device for real!
The key to the aesthetic of the build is the external case. [Nick] was able to recreate the rough design of the rendered device in SolidWorks, before having the components produced on a resin 3D printer which provided excellent surface finish. Internally, the Bluetooth audio receiver was cribbed from an old pair of wireless headphones. However, a little more oomph was needed to make the speaker really usable, so [Nick] hooked the audio output up to a small MAX98306 amplifier board and a pair of 3 W speakers. The tiny tactile buttons from the headphone PCB wouldn’t do, either. For a nicer feel, [Nick] hacked in a set of four hall effect keyboard switches to control the basic functions.
The result is a Bluetooth speaker that looks as rad as the rendered unit, only you can actually take it outside and bump some tunes! It recalls us of some fine up-cycling work we’ve seen done to vintage 80s radios in a similar vibe.
