@Tutanota great initiative! Here is a website about moving to alternative social media http://xodus.online . Of course people here on Mastodon already have taken some of those steps, but can share the website with friends who may like to learn more.

@Tutanota Digital independence day for blind people is as hypocrite as Valentine's day if you are in an abusive relationship, where one gives chocolate hearts to their partner while abusing of them, one day after the other.
No, this is not my way to get angry/envious of people who celebrate good stories. But to remind that too many people can't afford digital independence from multi-billionaires tech, as smaller companies/communities aren't so careful of accessibility (yet). This is due to a very relevant digital gap lasting since 25 years at least, when laws have started to come out before learning. Investments made on empathy-driven campaigns, "you must make it accessible otherwise"... The consequence is we have most 40-50 years old developers who know nothing. And 30-20 years old devs who could learn, but who are gradually being replaced by automated tools which claim to create accessibility automatically while accessibility needs human approach. -

We #DID this through:
★ replacing email service provider to #tutanota
★ changing the OS to #Linux 🐧 , with least prepackaged disros.
★ using @signalapp instead of #WhatsApp.
★ using Telegram & @Mastodon
for publication of our contentCurrently, we are looking forward for finding ways to support our efforts locally in Iraq to popularize #FOSS for everyone (no matter how much tech experience has)

HOW TO HAVE A LIFE IN 2026 IN 5 EASY STEPS: : 1.⏩Get a linux server running (e.g. Apache); 2.⏩ Register a domain && define a subdomain; 3.⏩ Install && configure a mailserver && define email accounts && setup mail clients (e.g. thunderbird; fairemail); 4.⏩ Install your own cloud on a subdomain. 5.⏩ Sync everything automagically between your devices with kdeconnect && davx5... And you're good to go && have a life!!! \o/ !!! @Tutanota || or || go for the lazy approach with tutamail

@MastodonSounds like a wise move.
But, I'm surprised you would choose a messaging app that is used by the US Dept of War, recommended for use by the US Dept of Cyber Security and controlled by a single operator who provides intelligence services to the CIA, FBI and NSC and is a financial supporter of Donald Trump, such as Signal.
Can I suggest you consider using Delta Chat instead.
Its very user friendly, encrypted, de-centralised, completely anonymous and you can even manage your own server with it.
I think its a much, much better messaging solution than Signal.

The list is relatively long, like:
* Bitwarden for password generation & storage
* Firefox & Brave for browsing
* Controlling Android's DNS contections
* Disabling Google Apps, e.g., Gmail, Google, Gemini, Drive, Meet ... etc

Definitely, we are moving towards Session & DeltaChat.
And of course, we value wisdom & experience in our project.
Thank you for your note 🙏

Great choices.
I use Delta Chat and Session for different needs. Both brilliant at what they do.
As a follow-up to my previous, here is a list of locations you can 'link-in' with that might be safer than a centralised US service, as Signal is.
