Powered using PoE over ethernet plugged into a PoE to USB-C splitter. No networking over the ethernet, just a way to get power into the loft.Client device is a T1000-E (https://thepihut.com/products/sensecap-card-tracker-t1000-e-for-meshtastic) connected over bluetooth to my iPhone.
The firmware running on the relay is super stable. The T1000-E firmware is not as stable and I often have to reboot it every 2 or so days.
@dan @Edent I gave up on both Meshtastic and Meshcore.
(Ran MT for ~3 mo, and MC for ~6 mo)
Meshtastic was largely dead in our area (might have better luck in a more built up area).
Meshcore seemed to be mainly somewhere for people to talk about Meshcore and send “Test!” “RX” messages back and forth.
Unless you have a known, stable, local mesh I wouldn’t rely on either for emergency use…

@Edent Neither are actually open source, I used Meshtastic for a year. Great for cities / festivals / mucking around.
Been using meshcore the last year or so.
Meshcore is MUCH more reliable for permanent setups, and usable for long range. We have like 200 meshcore nodes covering our whole state. Regularly messaging people hundreds of km away 12-14 hops.
This would be impossible on Meshtastic. -

This would be impossible on Meshtastic.@Edent I dislike Andy Kirby, and he’s investing in / building meshcore with a kiwi dev called Liam. Expecting enshittification in the future.

Meshcore is designed to be more of a message relaying system. Meshcore also has much longer range because of the relays. The cluster I participate in reaches from Hull to Isle of Wight.

@Edent @krahabors you have devices aimed at running of grid as a repeater. Then you need a low power device. heltec t114 will do, there are many more of course
If you have a device on constant USB power, or battery that should last a day heltecv3 or v4 are fine. -

@Edent DIY combination of nrf52840 with sx1262, usually called faketec, is good enough for me. Even without common PCB, wired dead-bug style:)
There are factory made versions of that combination now and a lot of newer, probably better options. -

I'm having fun but it's still very new. It feels like proper emergency comms are still with the hams, but then I need to get a license.

Questo articolo indaga come la stampa nazionale italiana ha descritto le proteste per il clima organizzate da @ultimagenerazione @italy e @fffitalia tra il 2019 e il 2023. Adottando un disegno di ricerca incentrato sugli eventi, abbiamo ricostruito ogni azione principale dei tre movimenti e raccolto due corpus di n=1045 e 258 articoli di giornale tratti dai quotidiani italiani a più alta diffusione. Ogni articolo è stato analizzato qualitativamente per rilevanza tipografica, artifici retorici e cornici di legittimazione o delegittimazione. I risultati confermano un paradosso di visibilità. Solo tattiche spettacolari e dirompenti, come gettare zuppa su un Van Gogh o cospargere di vernice il Senato italiano, hanno garantito visibilità ai giornali, ma hanno allo stesso tempo innescato un'ondata di etichette che hanno etichettato gli attivisti come «eco-vandali» o «fanatici», soprattutto nelle testate di destra. Inoltre, i risultati dimostrano che la copertura mediatica ha ampiamente marginalizzato le manifestazioni non conflittuali, lasciando i #FridaysforFuture per lo più invisibili. I risultati confermano quanto già teorizzato da Gamson e Wolfsfeld (1993): i movimenti devono massimizzare l'importanza della notizia, ma così facendo rischiano di perdere il controllo del messaggio. Discutiamo le implicazioni strategiche per l'attivismo climatico contemporaneo e per la deliberazione democratica sulla crisi ecologica.

This is a fascinating change of thinking.
Ronacher was a very explict all-in AI guy and now comes to many of the points critics have been making for years (without acknowledging any of course). He still cushions all criticism but it's revealing that he himself uses phrases like "psychosis"
