According to Tech Radar, a reason to avoid using Vivaldi web browser is "No AI-powered assistant". Yup - and we're proud of it! If you don't want slop while you shop, or scurf while you surf, give the European browser a try.

https://vivaldi.com/blog/a-i-browsers-the-price-of-admission-is-too-high/@brucelawson I’m enjoying the experience on Vivaldi so far. Works great, I don’t have to think about it much - what I want in a browser.

@brucelawson very thankful that Vivaldi does not waste ressources on AI-slop.

@brucelawson
"Reason to avoid"? 🤣
#NoAI was my reason for joining #Vivaldi after 15 years of being on #Firefox (and I'm so happy about this decision!)@elduvelle @brucelawson I just wish it was open source.
-
@brucelawson if only they wheren't a frond end for US infrastructure.
because ALL their online server connection pass trough US server
@lexinova all our infrastructure (storage, computation and such) is in Iceland and is powered by geothermal or hydro energy.
-
@brucelawson anyone know if it is accessible to the visually impaired?
@JustinMac84 We aim to be; we're currently working on a better way to set the relevant options for VI & mobility-impaired folks at onboarding to make it smoother.
-
@brucelawson Unfortunately no Free Software, isn't it?
@frlan it isn't fully open-source, no.
-

@brucelawson so you own cloudflare ?
https://bgp.tools/dns/vivaldi.com
An EU service that need US one = US app ans they can shut you down as they please.
Until vivaldi is US-LESS you are an US front-end nothing more in my eye.
-

@brucelawson oh and you own github too it seem....
For an anti AI browser .... why don"t you move out ?

@brucelawson Sounds good. Thanks. Let me know.

@lexinova all our infrastructure (storage, computation and such) is in Iceland and is powered by geothermal or hydro energy.
@brucelawson And to be clear i'm not anti vivaldi.
I just won't use an app that is run via US server for something as critical as browser.
The same issue apply on the mobile version, that do not exist on fdroid (since not fully open) it's why you also need an custom fdroid repo (like brave did), and also without using cloudflare.

https://vivaldi.com/blog/a-i-browsers-the-price-of-admission-is-too-high/@brucelawson I really wish you'd fix the addressbar already. Half of the time when I paste an address and press Enter, I'm sent to search for some reason… (VB-121860)

https://vivaldi.com/blog/a-i-browsers-the-price-of-admission-is-too-high/@brucelawson@social.vivaldi.net The trouble with Vivaldi is that like 90% of all other 'third party' browsers, it's Chrome in a trenchcoat under the hood. With everything that entails. Vivaldi also reserve the right to themselves to select what ads they consider acceptable to you.
(What ads do I consider acceptable in my browser — or anywhere else? None for anything I'm not actively looking for.)
