TIL that Signal - which I love - runs on AWS.

@_elena I know - same issue here, so I feel your pain. But as long as we keep moving from one centralized platform to another, we will never solve the problem.

Try Delta Chat.
It is resource effiecient, always encrypted, has some nice in-chat-apps and is very easy to use. -

@lv_426_survivor @_elena Probably not. But we can't rely on one single solution for our communications. Signal is great, but it's still centralised.

Yeah, I hate that. I have removed as much Amazon from my life as possible (all their direct services, like webshop, twitch, prime, goodreads, imdb) but it's hard to escape AWS :(I love Signal tho.

@_elena Signal is a US company. Even if they mean well, we can't fully trust them.

@_elena Looks like half of corpo internet is down including Coursea, Udemy, Canva, Snapchat ... guess everything that depends on AWS. For me Signal is like Bluesky. If you're looking for FOSS trully decentralised messanger I would reccomend @delta or if you're after more data intensive things like voice/video and not only data chat -> then @matrix ?

@_elena you could use Matrix.
But it's not as if Amazon can read your messages. -
