what's hostile alt text? you askit's when you don't actually describe what's in the image. it includes; just a joke, endless hashtags and/or emojis, extensive URLs, just a period, the file name of the image,....I hope this helps clear things upalt text on your picture of your cat could literally just be "my cat" and that's good enough. it's not great but you achieved the bare minimum—describing what's in the photo.what it should not be is: "lol look at this silly guy" or "wow what a pose" or "fuzzball" or "this one time I took this picture and I thought it was so good so I wanted to share it with you"

Okay Fediverse, you will know: A friend suggested I might try my luck searching for a job with things related to accessibility since my psychology background might come in handy there and I also have a knack for UX anyway. We were thinking haptics for deafblind people, braille tools, one-handed gamepads etc. My problem is: I have no idea where to even start searching for companies. Does anyone know a good starting point to learn about assistive aids and related tools?#fedihelp #accessibility

@0xabad1dea Different screenreaders work differently, but if you can include the characters it's best to do so. Mine usually skip symbols they don't recognize (really annoying as a linguistics student!).But if a summary would be sufficient ("it's a poem about birds" or "it's the name of this person" or whatever) because you're actually sharing the image to talk about the quality of the brushstrokes or the color or whatever, that's fine too.
