@hpod16
Welcome to the Mastodon!
@chillybot thank you! 💜 I can't believe how NICE people have been so far.

My #1 lilac thing: my bass guitar!If you know any cool bass players on Mastodon, point me their way!
I'm new here, and I also want to find my hobbies here!If you play another instrument, also come say hi in the comments!
My flatmate Jan moved back to Berlin 15 years ago, but I still have the components for his Bucket Bass sitting in my workshop:

Welcome to Mastodon @hpod16
I highly discourage playing double bass. But should you go down this rabbit hole, you better get a lilac one 😉@paulh my apartment is too small for me to buy any more instruments, especially a double bass. (I'm looking for a bigger apartment) 💜

@hpod16 I used to play bass (I was in a Cure cover band). Now I just DJ. But I love music and love that your bass is lilac! 💜
@DoomsdaysCW Ohhh I love the Cure!
The bass line in lovecats... the fragility of Close to me...
I would pitch it for my band but I don't really see our lead singer doing it. She's more of a Norah Jones kind of woman. 💜 -

@hpod16 I hate to say it, but I'm a bassist and might be cool?

@hpod16 I’m only a hobbiest bassist that got started way too late (a year ago) after my eldest daughter picked up guitar (and rapidly soared to heights I will never reach).
This is Tiffany. A cheap-as-hell Peavey Milestone III that I love…another sign I am destined for the low end 🤣.
Thanks already to everyone who provided some great follows. I am always interested in what people who know what they’re doing are doing. 🎸@DarwinLovesBitcoin I also started a year ago! Just a hobby bassist myself too. My day job is social media manager. 💜

@hpod16 One of the most divine instruments - the four-string! 🤘🏻
@oliver nothing beats that deep deep sounds. Every time I amp up and hit the open E string, my heart melts

@hpod16@eupolicy.social @paulh@metalhead.club there's always these skinny ones like my Marshmallow Bass (an NS Design WAV Bass )

@hpod16 I played drums for over a decade when I was younger. Still can hear primarily drums in songs too and know where they're hitting/timing, lol.
@strayadult
learning instruments (again) as an adult changed how I listened to music. And the bass was a revelation, for sure.
PS: love that your profile pic is purple, imma follow that. more purple in my timeline pls. 💜 -

@hpod16 welcome! Sax player here. Tried bass sax once, but low Bb would kill me in 3 seconds so I hoard smaller versions now.

@hpod16 Oh yeah - and seeing what people like Lemmy or Steve Harris did with the thing fortified my faith in the four-string-beast despite missing talent 😂

Bass newbie reporting in! I picked it up because my kid plays electric guitar.

@hpod16 I usually play long-scale basses, but I found out, that playing a Rickenbacker body shape feels much more comfortable for me, than a Fender body shape. I'm also a small person with small hands and short fingers.
But for some time now, I've been toying with the idea of switching to a short-scale. And playing a short-scale is so damn easy. My fingers just fly over the strings :-)
@sAshA8H so why not make your life easy?
What I failed to mention, my first bass was also FRETLESS. I really didn't know what I was buying, and I made my life a lot harder than it needed to be. Switching to a short-scale has been 💜 🔥 -
1974 Ovation Magnum bass in its case on the floor of the band practice room. I have it strung B-E-A-D so it gets real low and probably stimulates vibe glands or something.
Long ago, a friend told me it was ugly. I was genuinely offended.
@clonedhuman your friend was wrong, that's a beautiful instrument. Love the warm wood!
Also on the tuning, how low can we go?
