Update: a few hours before the deadline, we reached the goal!!!
This week, the #Python Software Foundation rejected a $1.5MM NSF grant, due to a requirement that the PSF abandon diversity work.
So I joined forces with Python folks (@offby1, @petrillic, @amethyst) and we're matching up to $12,000 of donations to the PSF. 🧵

next time I do this I'm definitely going to come up with an accounting system that is not a manual linda-style tuplespace in a folder full of .png files

Now that the remaining PNG files have been manually OCR'd, the total stands as follows:
We've raised $9238.74 which is 54.3% of our $17000 total. Once again within 24h of a contributor joining the match we are over half full, but we all stand ready to be maxed out so please keep those donations coming!

Update for 2025-11-2: we are currently at $12047.97; 70.9% of the way through our $17000 matching fund. Max us out, folks. Keep it coming. The match will be computed on 11/4 AOE, so you still have a little time, but not THAT much!.
(I should note: if you've already given, please just share, don't give more to break your budget. This is a marathon and not a sprint, nobody should be skipping meals to fund open source security infrastructure.)

Since engagement on Mastodon seems to be slowing down a bit (no shade; there's been a big response, but our networks here are only so big) I tried going over to the Dark Side, to see if there's anyone I could reach there which I can't reach here. Update 2025-11-03: thanks to the PSF's boost, we have now received $14622.43; 86.0% of our total match of $17000 . I am hopeful that we can close that 14% gap by tomorrow!

With only a few hours left to go, WE HAVE CROSSED THE FINISH LINE, and fully matched all $17,000! Here is a screenshot of my own match (as I said at the beginning, I was going to give $5000 regardless and $5000 to match, so this is the full $10k).

@virtuous_sloth my co-founder for a startup had a great strategy: meeting for coffee 30 minutes before we had to be somewhere. It was a pleasant thing to try to get to, and built a little buffer into our time.

So, I have benefited undeservedly from the kindness of others when I've been late for a flight, although I rarely have jumped the queue. I'm going to say, Yes, But, where the "but" is to realise that it's a hassle for the staff and for other passengers.

@evan My father (was in the RCN then RCMP) was perpetually early. He always planned to be at least 15 minutes early for simple appointments in town and often was 30 minutes early.
He wanted to never be late.

Leaving for the train from Seattle to Vancouver yesterday, for example, I had ample time to take light rail from UW to the King Street Station, do passport check, and get seated. But it turned out that light rail was closed between UW and downtown, and I had to take a courtesy shuttle bus instead. All my enjoyable travel time (coffee at the station) got eaten up by the shuttle bus. I barely got through passport check with enough time to get through the gate and onto the train.

I am habitually late for transportation. I have gotten better at leaving with enough time to travel the distance to the airport, but I still have not developed the habit of having enough *extra* time for one (1) thing to go wrong. So, if there are any even minor setbacks, I'm in hilarious travel catastrophe mode.
