Alright. So today I am going to see if I can get my Windows 10 machine set up for another year of security updates. And I am going to see if I can do it without:
- Changing my local login to log in with a Microsoft account,
- Signing up for OneDrive,
- Signing up for any paid XBox service,
- Moving to the EU.("Moving to the EU" is actually a thing I'm potentially willing to do, but I don't think it's a process I can complete before next Wednesday when Win10 reaches the end of normal support.)

Okay, so this is nice, I just saved $30. Except wait. Wait. Wait. Wait. "you've previously backed up your Windows settings". What the fuck does that mean? I didn't consent to that. Is Microsoft informing me that at some point they copied data off my computer to one of their servers, and did not tell me? What data? When? Why?

@ChateauErin sad as it is, I think that's probably the best scenario. I am skeptical that it is possible for the moon to have an orbit that maintains a consistent distance from the earth over a time scale like that, or at least the odds of the conditions needed for that to occur would be very very low
