@sturmsucht sadly if that happened all my family will keep using it because of its popularity / network effect. It’s a miracle I got them to install and use Signal for me 6 years ago.
Starting to think Big Tech is cult-like and people need de-programming.
They’re also all in LLMs and think age verification is a fantastic thing. No critical objections from me can do anything to persuade them to think otherwise.
Being a Cassandra is super hard and demoralizing sometimes 🥲

@_elena yeah, I'm with you. Most don't understand and if they do, they don't care.
My family hears me, but they also don't fully understand the impact of what is going on online. They only see the direct impact these action have for them and that is normally what big tech uses to sell these things as "improvement".

@sturmsucht I wish we had a support group to air our grievances. A certain family member is straight up mocking me for my negative stance about AI / LLMs and asks ChatGPT for medical advice all the damn time 😭

@_elena maybe send them those many articles about dead people you have used AI for medical advises 😬
When I tried to explain that their data is used - or better sold - to ad companies to serve them with ads, they didn't really see the point. For them ads is something they think they can ignore and the don't get what this actually means.
It changes when I rephrased it as their data is being sold to profile them. Because that as a complete different meaning. A meaning of surveillance.

there are so many defeatists though. "there's cameras everywhere", "they can already track your phone everywhere", "i don't message about anything illegal, they're not interested", etc

They had no other choice... I announced to them that I was going to delete my Whatsapp account and if they wanted to keep messaging with me, Signal was the only option. And they did!

Se a qualcuno interessa tramite l'applicazione Epic Games Mobile in questi giorni è possibile ricevere gratuitamente Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap. Non ci ho mai giocato su mobile ma da quanto ho potuto vedere è fatto molto bene e perfetto per chi ama i platform game! L'unica pecca è appunto che va installato tramite l'applicazione Epic Games Mobile, ma basta farsi un account fuffa, scaricarlo gratuitamente e poi basta.

A good piece on why XML deserves a second look as a format for DSLs: XML is a cheap DSL.
I've long thought there are problems where XML genuinely shines, and the richness of its tooling ecosystem is a big part of that. What's unfortunate is that the XML boom of the early 2000s left people with bad associations—not because XML is bad, but because it got dragged into problems it was never suited for. Reflexively avoiding XML today isn't really a rational response to that history. It's just the hangover.
