@timbray@mpjgregoire That's an interesting question. Maybe it's more like calling a shirt green when it's actually chartreuse. You're giving a first approximation that's easier to understand. I think we would often say that this is *imprecise* rather than *inaccurate*.
@eniko I think one thing that's desirable in siloed networks which is almost impossible in the Fediverse is getting someone kicked off the network. The best we can do right now is isolate someone's server with defederation, so they can't do as much damage. It's probably enough, but it lacks the finality of seeing someone's account shut down by a central authority. I think the trade-off is probably worth it, though.
@evan@mpjgregoire I was about to click on “not accurate but useful” and then I asked myself “how is that different from any other form of lying for political advantage?”
I’ve been part of some constructive discussions around the nuances of groups, lists, and follow recommendations (“starter packs”) lately. Maybe there will be other people [at FediForum] interested in exchanging ideas and plans.
Besides that, i’m always willing to talk about my evergreen topic: what can the fediverse do for academics, and what can academics do for the fediverse.
@mpjgregoire I think it's useful to identify structures of fascism in the current USA government: emphasis on the military, authoritarian leader, integrated industrial policy, government dominance of media, anti-human-rights agenda. These are tendencies that fly directly in the face of the USA's liberal traditions, so if we want to keep those traditions, we should be aware of how their opposites can interweave and self-reinforce.
@ElManga e per l'ape ti porto in Piazza a Sangio al Bar Fiorenza e a cena ci sono un paio di ristoranti sempre a Sangio che non sono male, se non sei vegano
