I wonder if she merely objects to my singing or if perhaps she is unaware that Caesar and Ptolemy are roles for castrato and thus I am actually singing them at the correct pitch. since her career was entirely focused on Romantic-era opera it's possible she doesn't actually know Baroque operas well

the fact that I'm wearing silly accessories creates a contract with the viewer "you can relax, I am not delusional, I am aware that my abilities are amateurish" and the fact that I am completely committed to the performance adds to that contract "you can relax, I am not mocking this musical/storytelling medium that you like"

take this villain rant for example. if I do it while mugging at the camera or actively drawing attention to the fact that yes, his voice really is written to be that high, it becomes insufferable. why make fun of some obscure old thing? nobody's making me perform it. if I do it in all seriousness, the viewer is smart enough to get "he he this is sort of inherently silly even without being done in an office in a 'Texas Chili Queens' tank top with a prom tiara" while also enjoying the ham
