Is this right?

Is this right? That *tomorrow* they're going to start denying, in some way or another, X gender markers at US borders / on US passports? https://www.gtlaw-insidebusinessimmigration.com/u-s-customs-and-border-protection-cbp/cbp-enforces-binary-sex-codes-and-enhanced-us-passport-validation-in-apis/
It's not quite clear what they're going to end up doing. Will they "infer" a binary gender, or will they deny the validity of the passport?
EDIT: source seems to indicate they aren't supposed to penalize holder? https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/2025-07/clp_bulletin_executive_order_on_m-f_gender_20250707.pdf
EDIT: Maybe not https://mstdn.isometry.group/@asa/115367846071505495 https://ferral.cat/objects/2b43f418-01ae-490d-9857-fa6026a1c306
@cwebber Yes, sadly. From tomorrow, US CBP is rejecting any passport containing [^MF] in the gender identifier field as incomplete. The airline will have to resubmit with an inferred value before the passenger can board.
The Canadian travel advisory for the USA says: "… You might face entry restrictions in countries that do not recognize the “X” gender identifier." — https://travel.gc.ca/destinations/united-states

@cwebber Another reason to stop travelling to the US. I have always thought the bathroom bans made it unsafe for all women, this just underlines that. :(
And this also affect airlines, not just border. So much empathy for the Americans who did not vote for this.

@ScruffyJunco @cwebber Frankly, I am terrified that our right has been taking notes from your right and are making too many inroads. It seems too may, particularly those lacking education, like being given permission to be their worst selves. It's a fight we are all in, like it or not. Human rights are human rights or they're not. :(

@cwebber this looks like the primary souce. it seems to say people with X passports can use either binary marker: https://www.cbp.gov/sites/default/files/2025-07/clp_bulletin_executive_order_on_m-f_gender_20250707.pdf

@cwebber I believe "carrier" means the airline, not the passport holder, so I wouldn't be *too* reassured
