we went for a v cold walk out near some lakes and spotted two of these woodpeckers! we had never actually seen a woodpecker peck wood so that was exciting! happy to be back inside now

@moiety Lovely! The upright alert posture reminds me of our Green-backed Tit in the Himalayas (we do not have Blue Tit here). The pink lichen is also very striking.

birds flying away from you generally don’t make v nice photos, and this is no exception, but i did enjoy seeing the water droplets jump off the bird’s back. plus seeing a bird take off from the water never gets old.
