🤦‍♂️UK. ‘Students at the University of Staffordshire have said they feel “robbed of knowledge and enjoyment” after a course they hoped would launch their digital careers turned out to be taught in large part by AI.’Disrespectful to the students https://www.theguardian.com/education/2025/nov/20/university-of-staffordshire-course-taught-in-large-part-by-ai-artificial-intelligence#ai #tech #education

News from the #Floppy #Museum! A friend of mine, fusion[1] from #OS2Warez, has written a tiny wrapper for #BBS #door programs so I can run them without needing a full-blown BBS. Combined with rlfossil, a telnet-to-serial-port emulator for DOS (yes, really!), you can now read and write messages in my little forum! Just telnet to floppy.museum on port 8023 - I recommend using #SyncTERM or some other client that implements the IBM 437 codepage, or 850 in a pinch. The experience should be fairly period-correct, something akin to a 1200 baud modem based on my testing. And just a reminder: This is a 286 machine, which also runs a web server, an IRC server, an FTP server and all of the above at the same time. It's not fast, but it gets the job done. Also: Only one node at the moment. If it's busy, try again later! Consider it an early beta, for the moment! :D [1] https://dcclost.com/ #RetroComputing #Why #Patience

Australian software engineer Sarah Spencer hacked a 1980's knitting machine to create "Stargazing: a knitted tapestry" to show the universe in a unique way. 🇦🇺Sarah explains, “By using a floppy drive emulator written in Python and a web interface, I can send an image to the Raspberry Pi over the network, preview it in a knitting grid, and tell it to send the knitting pattern to the knitting machine via the floppy drive port ... https://magazine.raspberrypi.com/articles/knitting-network-printer#WomensArt #Tech #Knitting #raspberrypi
