  • The focus for us at @Vivaldi has always been to do what our users want us to do. So we have spent time on things like:

    - Work spaces and tab stacks
    - Tab tiling
    - Mouse gestures
    - Customizable keyboard shortcuts
    - Tracker and ad blocker
    - Panels and Web panels
    - Cross platform, encrypted sync function
    - Advanced bookmarking function with speed dials
    - Customizable dashboard
    - Massive customization options in general.
    - Notes functionality

We have also added stuff like this in our desktop browser

    - Mail client
    . Calendar
    - Feed reader
    - Proton VPN integration

Not everyone uses everything we make, but that is also the point. The fact that we listen to special requests is IMHO a feature and not a bug. We value power users as well.

On the other hand, we have stayed away from certain things. Things like:

    - Blockchain / Crypto currencies
    - AI

You can find us on Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android and iOS. You can even find us in many cars running Android Automotive.

We are not the largest browser company in the world, but we are dedicated and we are growing. More and more are giving us a try. Have you?

  • @EnigmaRotor Yes, it was on NetBSD and it was one of those "set and forget" tools that made Apple the "original" Apple.

  • @AbramKedge you just don't have the right friends ;-) jokes aside, it is a bit hit and miss. I've had open questions that were answered after TWO YEARS and others that were answered within minutes.

  • people might joke but this is where the it industry is headed and nobody is safe. it doesn't matter if you are good or bad, you are just another commodity. just look at how many engineering jobs were cut in the past 18 months. Oracle is now reporting it will cut 30k jobs. there is no regulation in place and by the time our politicians wake up there will be nothing left. once it was a thriving industry and now it is on the brink of collapse. the change is real whether you like it or not

  • @stefano on a complety different topic, Time Capsule was based on netbsd(if I remember well). It saved my life, but wasn’t great hardware-wise (mine was dead, I guess that was a dc conversion pb, but never tried to fix the board), and the old sharing technology AFP was not great for over the wlan mounts. The same (dedicated hw with zfs and smb) would rock nowadays.
Oh wait, an Italian guy did write somethin’ on the topic…
true info: I would love apple to get back in the timecaspule/airport technology, simplicity-wise it was great. At this time user experience was the core of Apple. I miss these days.
