So a friend of mine was telling me about this one strange thing his wife does. Whenever they get a gift of *food* and ONLY food (eg like a basket of cheese and crackers) she immediately goes about dividing it EXACTLY in half. "this is my part of the cheddar, this is yours" he isn't bothered about it just a little confused.
She told him. "If you had siblings you'd understand."
I suggested he may eat all the cheese and not notice.
Can those with siblings speak on this? Are you traumatized?

Technically I have a sibling but our age difference is so great we never really squabbled and I don't know of these things.

My partner is an only child, but does this with everything, even home-cooked meals. I grew up with a close-in-age-but-older sibling and think my partner doing this is baffling.

@futurebird
House Rule: one sibling cuts, the other chooses.
* my twin brother was always cutting the cheese
(he's over 50; apparently I'm still a teenage boy) -

@futurebird I grew up with multiple sisters at different age differences but altogether relatively close, and while we did have a tendency to be quite rigid about portioning in our younger days, we've mostly grown out of it. The youngest does seem to be still a bit hung up on that though.
