Rumour is that a Steam Deck OLED price hike is coming.

Which shouldn’t surprise everyone given the rising price hikes of RAM and SSDs.

But sure sucks that four-year-old hardware is now more expensive than ever because of AI.

Truth be told, if I were a completely cynical person, I would say that because 4- and 5-year-old hardware is still holding its value in an appreciable fashion, the current crisis is manufactured in part to ensure that advances don't have to be made in order to justify price hikes.

@theogrin Well, it’s manufactured in the sense that a major RAM manufacturer decided to stop selling to consumers because AI datacentres are more lucrative.
