Yes, fandom, search relevant hashtags for discovering threads and fandoms, as well as groups (I think this means there are likely fandom groupies?)
I am with on reading, knitting, and xcountry when there's enough snow. But I live on an island on the left coast of Canada, and most of the snow is up where the fall-off-rocks-on-skis people go, not the prefer-level-groomed-trails-and-cocoa places.

@pompeian I’m a still tumblr girlie trying to return to posting. I’ve found mastodon very welcoming, especially if you can find the right hashtags for what you’re looking for.

@Amgine I too prefer not to fall off rocks on my skis! If anything else my knees can't take it. I've been on a bikepacking trip to Vancouver Island before though and it's gorgeous out there!

@pompeian there are lots of anime and gaming fans but not much shipping if that's what you mean. the ships and shipping hashtags were mainly boats and mail last time I checked.

Yes, it is! (said both smugly and a bit awed.) Nowhere is perfect, but the island is as good as I have found. Now if only everyone *else* did not find it as lovely as I do…

@pompeian welcome!! I wished there'd be more fandom here! I found a little star trek corner but nothing compared to tumblr fandoms or the good old ancient twitter fandom. Although I do suspect there're many fandom people on here by now who think they're alone between the tech and photography nerds. But proper fandom squee and shipping doesn't seem to exist here. Which is sad. What's your fandoms?
