just realized that schild's ladder is the solution to langoliers. the novo-vacuum and the langoliers describe one and the same problem; so does the "twisted" episode from voyager season 2 (and many more): a field is going to go through us, and it will certainly be deadly.
but the responses are different:
langoliers: get the fuck out
twisted: do nothing, it will be fine
schild's ladder: build a compatibility layer, it will be fine
I saw these mushrooms and went through the linked guide to identify them as polyporus brumalis. But then my ID app said it was lentinus brumalis and I was a little disappointed I had gotten it wrong. But then I looked up polyporus brumalis and it redirected to lentinus brumalis. I thought one of the reasons for "scientific names" was to avoid the problem of multiple common names?https://www.mushroomexpert.com/polypores_stemmed_pale.html#MushroomMonday
