@helenclayton they look delicious! Is there a public recipe?
@howisyourdog there is a public recipe! Here’s the link. It uses butternut squash but you could use any. I used maple syrup as substitute for honey.

@helenclayton thank you. I've got a squash and after baking beetroot brownies I'm eager to try more uncommon (to me) cakes

A friend gave me a chunk of squash from an enormous one she couldn’t finish. I don’t know what variety (now need to find out) but when roasted it was sweet and tasted like chestnut. So I pureed it and made spiced muffins with a maple glaze. I think this is how I’d like to eat all my squash now!
@helenclayton that sounds delicious! omg

@howisyourdog ooh beetroot brownies sound yum! Do you have a recipe for those?

Ooh, they do sound nice!
I've been baking this arvo - a lemon drizzle, and a coffee cake.

@helenclayton yes, I used this one and it turned out very nicely. I can still taste the beetroot a little bit but I think it complements the chocolate well.
I'm not gluten intolerant, so I used plain flour and plain baking powder.

@helenclayton @suearcher Possibly a winter squash? Maybe Kabocha? They do sound nice. I have a baked cheesecake in this afternoon's plans.

@helenclayton @howisyourdog I still have three butternut squash left from the garden. One is really big. Maybe that would be a good use for part of it.

@ravenbait @suearcher I’ll find out tomorrow and also try and pilfer some seeds.

@howisyourdog have you a link? I imagine the beetroot makes the cake nice and moist.

I haven't made a coffee cake for ages, for some reason. I'm looking forward to a piece after dinner....

@howisyourdog 😁 oh a riverford recipe! They are great. I’ve made one of theirs for chocolate courgette cake! Thank you! I might try growing beetroot this year.

@helenclayton they are nice and moist. I didn't put the tia maria in either, so they could taste even better!
